Born in 1947 , Christine Schöpf embarked on a remarkable career that would leave and transform the world of media arts and culture for desirable futures.
I first met Christine in 1993 and served on the jury she co directed, with Hannes Leopoldseder. What a tribe the jury was: it included Roy Ascott, Donna Cox, Brian Reffin Smith, Jean-Baptiste Barriere,David Wessel,Lucy Petrovich. It was a strange multi cultural multi disciplinary tribe.
We worked hard together, and she entertained us hard together.
From the founding years of Ars Electronica GmbH in Linz, Austria in 1979, she was there. At the time nobody really cared about the new emerging culture.
In 1987 she assumed responsibility for designing and managing the Prix Ars Electronica. From 1996 onward she co‑led the artistic direction of the festival alongside Gerfried Stocker, steering its evolution through a period of rapid technological and cultural change. (Wikipedia)

Her spirit lives on in every artist she encouraged, every idea she seaded, and every moment of convergence between art and knowledge that we still desperately need in the post digital AI age that is an anti-enlightenment.
